Shown in USAF Military Air Transport Service (MATS) markings, the Connie as it was affectionately called, is a very graceful looking aircraft. Produced in the 1940s and 50s, they were used during the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49. The triple fin arrangement has nothing to do with aerodynamics (or looks), but everything to do with the fact that - for its day - it was a large aircraft, and this layout allowed it to be housed in the existing hangars.
